Deconstructive knitwear | Paula Cheng
Paula Cheng is a New-York based fashion designer, specialized in deconstructive knitwear and complex free-form draping. Her jaw-dropping knitwear couture looks have brought her a lot of attention in the fashion industry. Her style is abstract, progressive and cosmopolitan.
Paula sees herself as a crafting person, enjoying the satisfaction that comes from knitwear problem-solving. She gets in the flow and finds it soothing when it gets repetitive.
Paula, whose family owns businesses in textile manufacturing and other clothing industries, was born in Taiwan, where she learned to knit at school. At age of 10, she was sent to a boarding school in upstate New York. She decided to enroll in the Fashion Design and Society MFA program at Parsons, the New School for Design, where she also teaches fashion design today.
